Party chief, Lithuanian President agree on key directions to deepen bilateral ties
VOV.VN - Party Secretary General To Lam and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda have discussed major directions and concrete measures to deepen traditional friendship through increased exchanges at all levels and across all channels, while expanding cooperation in trade and investment, defence and security, science and technology, innovation, energy, agriculture, and labour.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam hosted a reception in Hanoi on June 12 for Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, who is on a two-day official visit to Vietnam.
General Secretary Lam described the Lithuanian leader’s historic visit as an important milestone that will help advance the Vietnam–Lithuania relationship in a more substantive, effective, and forward-looking manner.
Reviewing the positive progress in bilateral ties in recent years, the Party chief thanked the Lithuanian government and people for their valuable support to Vietnam during its difficult past. He reaffirmed that Vietnam places importance on promoting relations with traditional friends, including Lithuania, an important partner in the region.
He applauded Lithuania’s socio-economic achievements, particularly its pioneering role in information technology, financial technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity, key fields in today’s global digital transformation, which have elevated the country’s profile and position in the region.
For his part, President Nauseda expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s remarkable achievements over nearly four decades of Doi Moi (Renewal), while highlighting the country’s dynamic economy, deep international integration, political and social stability, and steady improvements in living standards.
He also praised Vietnam’s strategic vision and policy direction in science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, international integration, and private sector development. President Nauseda affirmed his nation’s high regard for Vietnam’s growing role and status in the region and the world, and its wish to strengthen ties with Vietnam both bilaterally and multilaterally.
The two leaders acknowledged the positive results of President Nauseda’s talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Luong Cuong, including the signing of several cooperation agreements that open up promising opportunities in areas where Lithuania has strengths and Vietnam has growing demand, such as science and technology, energy, and high-tech agriculture.
Both sides underlined the importance of bolstering cooperation in education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges to deepen mutual understanding, enhance each country’s standing in the region and the world, and support deeper integration into global supply chains, thereby contributing to peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
General Secretary Lam expressed his appreciation and called on the Lithuanian government to continue supporting the Vietnamese community in the country, enabling them to live and work in stable conditions. He also proposed stepping up training for Vietnamese students, especially in Lithuania’s areas of strength in order to help build high-quality human resources for both nations’ development. He stressed the role of a strong and cohesive Vietnamese community in Lithuania as a bridge for friendship and comprehensive cooperation.
Exchanging views on regional and global issues of shared interest, the two leaders agreed to strengthen coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums such as the United Nations and the Asia–Europe Meeting (ASEM), as well as within the EU–ASEAN cooperation framework.
Both sides reaffirmed their support for international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation in the East Sea.
