Party chief attends gathering of Vietnamese, Chinese alumni in Hanoi

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam attended a gathering in Hanoi on March 20, bringing together generations of Vietnamese and Chinese alumni to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties.

The “Gathering of Vietnamese and Chinese Alumni Across Generations” was held in Hanoi  on March 20, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and other relevant agencies.

The event marks the 75th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations and the Vietnam-China People-to-People Exchange Year 2025.

The gathering brings together around 800 delegates, including 500 from Vietnam and 300 from China. These attendees represent generations of students who have witnessed the development of Vietnam-China ties, as well as young representatives who embody the future of bilateral relations.

A broad array of activities are scheduled, including a commemorative photo session, an exhibition on Vietnam-China relations, artistic performances, a documentary screening on 75 years of bilateral ties, and panel discussions featuring former students sharing their experiences in education and diplomacy.

Nguyen Van Tho, Vice President of the Vietnam-China Friendship Association and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the significance of fostering mutual understanding among students and young people, noting that people-to-people exchanges serve as a fundamental pillar in reinforcing Vietnam-China relations.

He also underscored the event’s role in deepening trust between the two Parties and their people while reinforcing the social foundation of bilateral ties.

"Vietnam and China are close neighbors, sharing mountains and rivers. The relationship between our two countries was carefully cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh, Chairman Mao Zedong, and generations of senior leaders. This is a valuable asset that we must preserve and cherish, with citizen diplomacy playing a pivotal role in advancing this friendship," Tho stated.

In recent years, Vietnam-China relations have maintained a positive trajectory, with frequent high-level exchanges strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Bilateral cooperation has also expanded across various fields, particularly in people-to-people exchanges.

According to Tho, the gathering offers an opportunity for Vietnam to reaffirm its foreign policy, particularly regarding China.

"This year marks the 75th anniversary of Vietnam's diplomatic relations with China and many other countries. It is an occasion to highlight our foreign policy of multilateralization and diversification, bolstering broad cooperation with global partners. However, China remains a top priority in the foreign policy of the Vietnamese Party and State," he affirmed.
