Party and State leaders make all-out efforts to ensure sufficient COVID-19 vaccines

VOV.VN - Amid a global shortage of COVID-19 vaccines, senior leaders, particularly the Prime Minister, alongside various ministries, and sectors have found many ways to access and purchase vaccines for citizens.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh made the statement during the plenum of the 15th legislature when presenting a report aimed at reviewing the results of the socio-economic development plan. This is in addition to looking at the performance of the state budget in the first half of the year and other solutions ahead of implementing fresh socio-economic development and state budget plans in the second half.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the fourth COVID-19 wave, which can be characterised by the emergence of the Delta variant, is proving to be more infectious and more dangerous. Indeed, it has had a strong impact on a number of northern provinces and cities, whilst also adversely affected the southern key economic zone and the Mekong Delta, particularly Ho Chi Minh City.

In the face of complicated developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat issued dispatches and directives on a number of key tasks aimed at  strengthening COVID-19 containment efforts. This has been done in order to ensure continued socio-economic development, with the highest priority being placed on the protection of people's health and lives.

There have been numerous diplomatic solutions proposed aimed at promoting all possible measures to secure the most vaccine doses possible in the near future.

Furthermore, massive vaccination campaigns have been launched in a timely, scientific, safe, and effective manner nationwide in a bid the slow the rapid spread of the virus among the wider community.

The Government report indicates that the risk of the pandemic spreading in many localities could potentially cause further disruption to production and export chains. The realisation of the growth target for the entire year is therefore facing plenty of difficulties and challenges, requiring appropriate and effective tasks and solutions which can both contain the pandemic and simultaneously boost socio- economic development.

During the remaining months of the year, the Government will continue to implement resolutions adopted by the Party, the National Assembly, and the Action Program, with a particular focus on keeping a close watch on the pandemic situation. This is being done to come up with timely, flexible, creative, and appropriate solutions to realise the dual goal of pandemic prevention and control measures, along with socio-economic recovery and development.

At present, the top priority is to focus on effective COVID-19 prevention and control measures to boost production whilst striving to achieve set goals at the possible highest level, the report emphasized.

With regard to the implementation of the socio-economic development and State budget plans in the first six months, Minh said that socio-economic situation was kept stable and yielded positive results across a wide range of fields during the first half of 2021, with GDP growth reaching about 5.64%, which is quite high compared to other countries in the world.

The Deputy PM attributed the good performance results to the unity and determination by the entire Party and people to surmount difficulties and challenges toward achieving the dual target moving forward.
