Party and State leaders host Malaysian Prime Minister

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted separate receptions for Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob who paid courtesy visits to them on March 31 in Hanoi as part of his visit to Vietnam.

Meeting with the Vietnamese Party chief, the Malaysian PM congratulated Vietnam on its achievements in socio-economic development over the past time, especially its COVID-19 containment and economic recovery efforts.

PM Ismail Sabri Yaakob informed Trong about the outcomes of his talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, while emphasizing his nation's recognition of great importance to the strategic partnership with Vietnam.

He said he wishes the two sides to step up bilateral cooperation in such fields as economics, trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges, adding that Malaysia aspires to bolster tourism and maritime cooperation with Vietnam in order to fully tap both nations' potential.

PM Ismail Sabri Yaakob agreed to strengthen party relations, through delegation exchange, especially high-level ones and exchanges between Party organizations so as to learn and consult experience.

In response, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted the Malaysian Prime Minister's official visit to Vietnam as a milestone that contributes to promoting the traditional friendship, mutual trust and developing the strategic partnership between the two countries in a practical and effective manner across multiple fields.

Both leaders compared notes on Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements after 35 years of renovation, policies and goals set by the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).

The Vietnamese Party leader affirmed Vietnam’s unwavering policy of treasuring and strengthening the strategic partnership with Malaysia.

He asked the two sides bring into play the obtained outcomes, improve the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms, including relations between their political parties, step up bilateral connections as well as cooperation within ASEAN and regional and international forums.

With regard to the East Sea, Trong suggested Vietnam and Malaysia jointly and actively consolidate peace and cooperation in the East Sea in order to ensure the rights and legitimate interests of the parties under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

In that spirit, Trong proposed the two countries intensify viewpoint exchange and maritime cooperation across a variety of fields, thereby together maintaining peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.

At the reception for the Malaysian PM, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the Malaysian Prime Minister's official visit to Vietnam is of great significance as it will create a new driving force behind the development of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Vietnamese State leader congratulated Malaysia on keeping the GDP growth momentum in 2021 at 3.1% and reopening to international tourism from April 1, 2022. He said he believes that the Malaysian Government will successfully implement the 12th five-year Plan with the aim of turning Malaysia into a high-income country with an increasing role and international position by 2025.

The Malaysian PM also informed President Phuc about the major results of his talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, whereby the two sides agreed to continue to bolster cooperation in a multitude of fields, especially economics, trade, investment and labour.

The two sides concurred to effectively implement the Action Program to deploy the strategic partnership for the 2021-2025 period as well as boosting coordination in carrying out practical activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2023.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has recommended Vietnam and Malaysia take full advantage of free trade agreements of which both are members, particularly the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

Phuc said he appreciates the results of the substantive talks and the documents signed by the two sides on this occasion, helping to create more legal basis for bilateral cooperation.

The President commended the fact that the two sides have agreed in principle to recognise each other's vaccine certificates, offering favourable conditions for travel and trade between the nations.

He suggested Vietnam and Malaysia augment cooperation in building the circular economy within the framework of the ASEAN Economic Community for mutual recovery and development.  

Phuc wished that the two sides continued to support and cooperate actively at the United Nations, APEC, ASEAN and regional and international forums. He underlined the necessity of joining other ASEAN member states to reinforce the bloc’s solidarity, enhance its centrality, and build a prosperous and strong ASEAN Community.

On the basis of the great cooperation potential between the two countries, both sides agreed to seek new areas of cooperation, striving to further increase two-way trade turnover, and to intensify joint work in tourism, culture, science and technology, and people-to-people exchange.

On the occasion, Phuc extended his best wishes to and invited the Malaysian King to visit Vietnam in an appropriate time in the time ahead, while the Malaysian PM conveyed the king’s invitation to the Vietnamese leader to soon pay a State-level visit to Malaysia.
