Party and Government leaders attend inauguration and groundbreaking of 250 projects nationwide

VOV.VN - On August 19, Vietnam marked the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day with simultaneous inauguration and groundbreaking ceremonies for 250 key projects across 34 provinces and cities throughout the nation.

A major ceremony was held at the National Exhibition and Fair Center in Hanoi, and was connected via live broadcast the event to 79 other sites.  It was attended by Party General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai, and leaders of ministries, sectors, and Hanoi city attended.

Among the 250 projects, 161 were groundbreaking and 89 inaugurated, with a total investment of VND1.28 quadrillion, including VND478 trillion from 129 state-funded projects (37%) and VND802 trillion from 121 other projects (63%), of which five are foreign-invested. These works are strategically important, symbolizing the nation’s aspiration for development and the determination of its people.

On the same day, six expressway projects totaling 364 km were launched, along with upgrades to various roads, including the final segment of the North-South route from Ca Mau to Dat Mui. The groundbreaking of Hon Khoai and Bai Goc ports marks strategic steps for economic development, national defence, and implementation of the maritime economic strategy.

Key resettlement projects for the North-South high-speed railway and the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong line were also initiated, laying the foundation for the country’s high-speed rail network.

Major aviation projects, including the expansions of Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, and Long Thanh airports, are progressing toward completion within this year. On August 19, construction also began on Gia Binh Airport (class 4E), Cat Bi Terminal T2, and the expansion of Ca Mau Airport. The National Exhibition and Fair Center, ranked among the world’s top 10 for super-long and heavy structures, was finalized in just over 10 months. Other notable projects include Nghe An Oncology Hospital, Saigon International Financial Center, and 21 social housing projects providing around 11,500 units across multiple provinces.

These projects collectively demonstrate Vietnam’s infrastructure achievements and show the Party, State, and people’s commitment to building a prosperous, modern, and civilized nation.

Construction Minister Tran Hong Minh emphasized that all projects were completed despite challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic and fluctuating material costs. Guided by the Prime Minister’s directives to prioritize collective interest and share difficulties, the construction sector was determined to deliver quality projects on schedule, honoring responsibilities to the Party, State, and citizens.

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Security, General Luong Tam Quang, pledged the timely completion of Gia Binh International Airport, aiming for it to become a model, internationally recognized facility that contributes to the nation’s development aspirations.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh noted that the inauguration and groundbreaking of 250 complex projects play a crucial role in socio-economic development, attract private sector participation, and span sectors including science and technology, digital transformation, defence, foreign affairs, healthcare, education, sports, culture, and social welfare. He commended the determination, creativity, and dedication of all officials, investors, contractors, and workers, highlighting their tireless efforts to bring projects into operation efficiently.

He stressed that today’s strategically important projects transform the nation’s infrastructure, implement the Party and State’s vision, enhance regional and economic connectivity, create an attractive investment environment, generate employment, and stimulate long-term growth.

The Government chief expressed confidence that with the combined effort, we will deliver impactful projects and pave the way for double-digit growth in the coming years.

After inaugurating the National Exhibition and Fair Center, Party General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and other current and former leaders checked the progress of construction and installation works at the “Achievements of the Nation – 80 Years of Independence, Freedom, and Happiness” exhibition.
