Parliamentary cooperation deepens Vietnam–Australia ties: Australian Senate President

The strong parliamentary links have played an important role in deepening the friendship and ties between Vietnam and Australia, President of the Australian Senate Sue Lines has said.

Talking with the Vietnamese press, Lines, who is paying an official visit to Vietnam from August 24-30 at the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, highlighted the signing of the parliamentary cooperation agreement in 2022, and the recent upgrade of the bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, describing them as solid foundations for the two sides to expand cooperation.

"So Vietnam and Australia are very strong partners and strategically, economically and our people to people links are very important to both Australia and to Vietnam. And I think with the signing of the parliamentary cooperation in 2022 that has increased our strong and trusted partnership," she said.

Lines said she had discussed some issues with Man such as economy, security, defence, trade, and the deepening relationship between Vietnam and Australia, which, she said, enabled the two parliamentary leaders have good, and genuine conversations.

Australia wishes to cooperate with Vietnam in a number of areas, particularly green energy transition, mining and resources, and sees investment into the Southeast Asian country important, she stressed.

Lines also stressed that Australia wants to partner with Vietnam in the nation’s future plans and strategies to turn itself into the best destination for foreign friends as it possibly can.
