NA Vice Chairman hosts US congress officials
VOV.VN - National Assembly Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty on July 6 received visiting US congress officials in Hanoi, during which he affirmed Vietnam’s external policy of developing relations with the US.
Ty said the visit by a delegation from the Armed Service Committee of the US House of Representatives, led by Michael Dennis Rogers, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Strategic Forces gave both sides a chance to frankly talk about issues of shared concern to step up cooperation in a broader range of fields.
Vietnam desires to enhance the comprehensive partnership with the US in a practical and efficient manner for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the wider world world, he said.
Ty suggested the US Congress and Government support accelerating trade ties with Vietnam, improving the capacity of Vietnam’s maritime police, and increasing cooperation in search and rescue and natural disaster relief, as part of efforts to promote the bilateral comprehensive partnership.
He greatly valued practical activities taken by the US Congress and Government in addressing the war consequences in Vietnam, and also suggested exchange programmes for legislators to share experience.
Rogers , in turn affirmed that the US always sees Vietnam a close friend and a reliable partner in the region and the world and promised that he will continue supporting the promotion of Vietnam-US cooperation.
