NA leader encourages solidarity among Vietnamese nationals overseas

VOV.VN - Vietnamese nationals residing overseas should uphold the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance in order to weather the COVID-19 crisis, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue told representatives of the Vietnamese communities in both Eastern and Central Europe.

While meeting with representatives of Vietnamese nationals residing in Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia in Vienna on September 5, NA Chairman Hue praised their great efforts in integrating into their respective host countries and making practical contributions to their homeland through investments and charity campaigns.

According to the NA leader, Vietnamese nationals abroad have remitted more than US$70 billion to the homeland over the past five years. Vietnamese nationals residing in 27 countries and territories have invested in approximately 360 projects in their home nation, with capital reaching US$1.6 billion, many of which have yielded highly encouraging results.

He went on to share some of the difficulties and losses faced by Vietnamese expatriates abroad due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, whilst encouraging them to promote the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance in order to overcome the difficult period.

The NA Chairman also briefed delegates on the situation regarding the latest COVID-19 outbreak in Vietnam, stating that the Party, State, and Government are making every effort in a bid to contain the spread of the pandemic, maintain social security and reboot the local economy.

He noted that one of the key missions during his working trip to the EU will be to promote vaccine diplomacy in a bid to try and gain more access to vaccine doses for the nation. Before departing Hanoi for Vienna, he said that he had sent letters to legislative leaders of 27 European countries, Ambassadors of 27 European countries residing in Vietnam and Vietnamese ambassadors to these countries in order to lobby for greater vaccine support.

Also at the meeting, NA Chairman Hue acknowledged the expats’ desire to re-acquire Vietnamese citizenship alongside their current foreign one, stating that relevant ministries are examining ways to respond to their request.

Regarding learning the Vietnamese language for young generations of Vietnamese abroad, he added that the Politburo has assigned relevant agencies to work on the compilation of appropriate textbooks, teachers’ training, and equipment supplies for the expat community.
