NA leader affirms Vietnam's priority over partnership with Russia

VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on January 17 hosted a reception in Hanoi for Vice Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia Karelova Galina Nikolaevna and Deputy Chairwoman of the State Duma of Russia Epifanova Olga Nikolaevna.

Vietnam prioritises reinforcing comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, Ngan told her Russian guests who are on a working visit to Vietnam for the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26).

The top legislator asked Russia to back Vietnam’s run for non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure and suggested both sides provide mutual support at multilateral forums, especially in the United Nations.

With two-way trade rising to US$3.2 billion as of the late November 2017, she urged both sides to effectively undertake the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement that took effect in 2016 to maintain the growth.

The host wished that the Russian parliament will provide necessary legal assistance to sign an agreement on food quality control, thus making it easier for Vietnamese businesses to export farm and aquatic products to Russia.

She called for all possible support for the two countries’ oil and gas joint-ventures to operate effectively, and assured that Vietnam supports Russia in new energy, railway and metro construction projects in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Ngan affirmed Vietnam's willing to back the establishment of an automobile manufacturing joint-venture in the time to come.

Ngan also aspired to receive Russia’s assistance in milch cow farming and milk processing, and clean vegetables farming projects.

The Vietnamese NA have always engaged in parliamentary cooperation activities hosted by Russia, Ngan said while showing wish that the two law-making bodies will continue working closely within the framework of the multilateral parliamentary cooperation such as the International Parliamentary Union and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting.

Vice Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia Karelova Galina Nikolaevna, for her part, informed the host that the Russian delegation prepares five draft resolutions on specific issues for consideration at the APPF-26.

Russia places importance on enhancing trade and economic links, tourism and cultural exchanges with Vietnam.

The Russian official invited Ngan to attend the Asia-Europe Women’s Forum in her nation this year.
