NA endorses personnel of National Defence and Security Council
VOV.VN - The National Assembly of Vietnam approved the Vice Chairperson and members of the National Defence and Security Council at its first session on April 8 in Hanoi, with Prime Minister Le Minh Hung serving as Vice Chairman.
At the session, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan presented a proposal from the State President on the list of nominees for vice chairperson and members of the council. The National Assembly then held a vote and heard a report on the voting results.
Under the Constitution, the State President serves as commander-in-chief of the armed forces and chairs the National Defence and Security Council. The council consists of a chairperson, a vice chairperson and members, whose nominations are submitted by the State President to the National Assembly for approval.
With 480 out of 480 deputies voting in favour, representing 100% of those present and 96% of the total membership, the National Assembly adopted a resolution adopting the list.
Accordingly, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung serves as Vice Chairman of the council. Other members include National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Phan Van Giang; Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang; and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung.
The council submits proposals on a state of war to the National Assembly, or to the National Assembly Standing Committee when the legislature cannot convene, and mobilizes all forces and resources of the country to defend the nation.
The council also performs special tasks and exercises powers assigned by the National Assembly in the event of war, and decides on the participation of the armed forces in activities contributing to the protection of peace in the region and the world.
