NA Chairman meets President of Japan’s House of Councillors

VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue met with President of Japan’s House of Councillors Santo Akiko in Vienna on September 7 as part of his working visit to Austria for the fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament (WCSP5).

Both sides showed their elation at the fruitful development of the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership in such fields as diplomacy, economics, trade and investment.

Exchanges through the parliamentary channel have been strengthened, helping consolidating political trust, people-to-people exchanges and coordination between the two nations at regional and international forums.

During the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam and Japan have given each other with valuable and timely support, they said.

The top Vietnamese legislator thanked Japan for donating nearly 3 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for Vietnam, saying this is a noble gesture amid the complex pandemic.

He called on Japan to further help Vietnam with medical supplies and unused COVID-19 vaccines, and consider the possibility of cooperation in the production of COVID-19 vaccine and drug.

Santo thanked Vietnam for presenting medical masks to Japan last year, and described the gifts as a demonstration of the fine relations between the two countries.

The two sides held that Vietnam and Japan will continue offer mutual support in pandemic control and prevention, and post-pandemic recovery, step up collaboration between legislative agencies and enhance the role of friendship parliamentarians’ groups to ramp up cooperation initiatives.

Santo said she hoped that more activities would be launched to augment cooperation and exchanges between people of the two countries, especially young generation.

Hue suggested Japan pay more attention and care to the Vietnamese community in the country and encourage Japanese firms to increase their investments in the Southeast Asian nation towards recovery and development in the “new normal”.

The two sides agreed to conduct official exchange visits when conditions permit in the time ahead.
