NA Chairman attends 30th anniversary of Vietnam-China route

VOV.VN - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue attended the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Vietnam-China flight route and celebrated the 100,000th flight on this route on April 9 in Beijing as part of his six-day official visit to the neighbouring nation.

The event was also attended by Bui Thi Minh Hoai, head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilization, Vice Chairman of the NA Tran Quang Phuong,, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, and representatives from both nations’ ministries and sectors.

Upon addressing the event, Deputy PM Quang hailed the role and efforts made by Vietnam Airlines over the past 30 years, which has served as a bridge for the enhancement of diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations between the two countries.

In the field of economics and trade, the northern neighbour has been the nation’s largest trading partner for many years, with last year’s import-export turnover reaching approximately US$172 billion. Regarding tourism and aviation, China is always an important market for the Vietnamese aviation industry.

Before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the total aviation market capacity between the two countries in 2019 exceeded 3.1 million passengers, with these results being thanks to contributions made by the aviation industry.

“In the future, cooperation between Vietnam and China will continue to develop in a multitude of fields and aviation bridge will play a particularly important role. It is essential for airlines to continue intensifying operations and improving service quality. We also hope that relevant agencies and departments of the two countries create favorable conditions for the aviation industry and Vietnamese airlines, including the national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines to fulfill their tasks well," Deputy PM Quang emphasized.

Dang Ngoc Hoa, chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, affirmed that the decision to open the route to China 30 years ago carried strategic commercial significance for Vietnam Airlines. This also acts as an important bridge in trade, economic, political, and cultural activities between the two countries whilst promoting Vietnamese values to the world.

The airline pledges to continue to seek further opportunities aimed at increasing frequency, opening new routes, and improving service quality, thereby promoting its role as a reliable aviation bridge between the nation and China.

This comes after 30 years ago Vietnam Airlines officially operated the first regular flights to China, connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi with Guangzhou.

Since those initial flights, Vietnam Airlines has continuously expanded its flight network to other destinations in China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Kunming, using modern Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

The airline is currently operating flights connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai with 33 round-trip flights per week.

Over the past three decades, since opening flights to the Chinese market, Vietnam Airlines has conducted 100,000 flights and transported more than 11 million passengers and 166 thousand tonnes of goods.

Most notably, overcoming the difficulties caused by COVID-19, Vietnam Airlines is one of the first airlines to resume flights to China and actively maintain aviation and tourism promotion activities after the pandemic was brought under control.

At the event, Vietnam Airlines and Chinese partners signed a joint venture contract regarding enhanced co-ordination and co-operation on routes between the two nations.
