Mongolian President hosts welcome ceremony for Vietnamese top leader

VOV.VN - A welcome ceremony of the highest protocol for heads of state was held at Sükhbaatar Square in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar on the afternoon of September 30 for General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of Vietnam To Lam who is on a state visit to Mongolia.

Host President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh welcomed the top Vietnamese leader upon arrival, with the pair then inspected the guard of honour.

Writing in the guest of honour book, General Secretary and Present To Lam highlighted the 70-year-old Vietnam-Mongolia relationship with major co-operation achievements.

The leader said he and the Mongolian President will announce the elevation of the bilateral relationship to that of a comprehensive partnership later on the same day, which is expected to open up a new period of development co-operation that is more substantive, effective, comprehensive, and long-lasting. This will be done for the wider prosperity and happiness of their peoples.

Following the conclusion of the welcome ceremony, the two leaders held a retreat and will also take part in talks and witness the signing of several co-operation documents.

The two leaders also witnessed the signing of various co-operation agreements between the two countries' ministries, sectors, and agencies following their talks in Ulaanbaatar on the same day.

The documents include a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on legal ties between the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice and Mongolia’s Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs; an MoU on co-operation between the two Ministries of Transport; and an MoU on tourism links between Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and Mongolia’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth.

Furthermore, other inked documents are relating to an agreement on collaboration in cybersecurity and crime prevention between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Mongolian Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs. This is in addition to an MoU to strengthen friendly collaboration between the administrations of Hanoi and Ulaanbaatar. The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology sealed an MoU in co-operation with the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, while the Vietnam National University Hanoi signed a similar pact with the Mongolian University of Science and Technology.

The top Vietnamese leader's two-day state visit to Mongolia from September 30 aims to continue reaffirming the nation’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification of international relations. In addition, it will show the extensive, intensive, and comprehensive international integration that exists between both sides. It also underscores that the Party and State of Vietnam place importance on the traditional friendship with Mongolia, as well as a keen desire to deepen and strengthen the bilateral ties in a more practical and effective manner in alignment with the new situation.
