Malaysia’s 69th National Day marked in Ho Chi Minh City

VOV.VN - A ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City on September 22 to mark Malaysia’s 69th National Day and Malaysia Day, observed on August 31 and September 16, respectively.

The event was jointly organised by the Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Vietnam-Malaysia Friendship Association and the Consulate General of Malaysia at the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations.

Speaking at the event, Tran Ngoc Son, chairman of the Vietnam-Malaysia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasised that the traditional friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia continue to deepen, with practical progress across trade, investment, education, culture and tourism, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges.

More Vietnamese students are choosing Malaysia as a study destination, while two-way tourism is flourishing, he added.

Son highlighted a range of activities organised by the Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Vietnam-Malaysia Friendship Association in recent years, including commemorative events, cultural exchanges, seminars and business networking programmes. These activities, he said, have helped strengthen mutual understanding, people-to-people ties and friendship between the two countries.

For his part, Firdauz Bin Othman, Malaysia’s Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, said Malaysia and Vietnam are close friends and trusted partners, both bilaterally and within ASEAN and at international forums.

Two-way trade reached US$21.59 billion in 2025, up 19% from a year earlier. Vietnam welcomed 573,715 Malaysian visitors, while Malaysia received 331,074 Vietnamese visitors. Educational cooperation has also expanded through student exchange programmes and partnerships between educational institutions.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Malaysian investment currently totals about US$6.1 billion, spanning multiple sectors, including banking and real estate.
