Libya seeks Vietnam’s support and experience in national reconstruction

VOV.VN - On January 17, at Abu Sitta Presidential Palace in Tripoli, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Egypt and concurrently to the State of Libya Nguyen Nam Duong presented his credentials from State President Luong Cuong to Chairman of Libya’s Presidential Council Muhammad Al-Menfi, formally assuming his role as non-resident

At a meeting following the credential ceremony, Chairman of the Presidential Council Muhammad Al-Menfi welcomed Ambassador Nguyen Nam Duong on his new assignment and reaffirmed Libya’s wish to consolidate and develop Libya-Vietnam bilateral relations.

He said Libya hoped to boost cooperation with Vietnam in areas including the economics, trade, investment and energy, and expressed a desire for Vietnam to support and share its experience in national reconstruction. He also said Libya welcomes and creates conditions for foreign businesses, including Vietnamese companies, to invest in the country.

Ambassador Nguyen Nam Duong said he was honoured to be appointed Vietnam’s Ambassador to the State of Libya and affirmed that he would work to promote the expansion and substantive development of bilateral relations.

He said the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Libya has been consolidated and developed for more than 50 years, and noted that cooperation potential between the two countries remains considerable.

The ambassador said he hopes Vietnam and Libya will continue to support each other at multilateral forums, particularly within cooperation frameworks involving the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and expressed his expectation that exchanges of delegations and bilateral cooperation will increase in the time ahead.

Earlier, Ambassador Nguyen Nam Duong presented copies of his credentials to the Director of the Asia-Australia Department at Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Vietnam and Libya established diplomatic relations on March 15, 1975. Libya provided active support to Vietnam during its struggle for national reunification and in subsequent periods of national reconstruction and development.

Libya supported Vietnam’s accession to the United Nations in 1977 and its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term. Bilateral trade turnover reached US$156 million in 2024.
