Leaders upbeat about flourishing Vietnam-Laos relations
VOV.VN - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and General Secretary of the Laos People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President Thongloun Sisoulith hailed the positive development of the great friendship, special solidarity, and all-around co-operation between the two nations.
NA Chairman Hue paid a courtesy visit to General Secretary of the Laos People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith in Vientiane on May 16 during an official visit to the neighbouring country.
The Vietnamese NA leader showed his elation at having the honour of visiting Laos for the first time in the role of Chairman of the Vietnamese NA.
He also expressed his delight at witnessing the great achievements recorded by Laotian people over recent years under the sound leadership of the Laos People's Revolutionary Party, particularly in maintaining political stability, ensuring national security and defence, as well as future economic growth. This comes amid the backdrop of recent complicated international challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic.
NA Chairman Hue said he believed that Laotian people will overcome all challenges and will eventually be able to successfully carry out the Resolution adopted at the 11th Party National Congress of Laos and its ninth five-year socio-economic development plan. This includes successfully taking measures to boost economic recovery, ensure macroeconomic stability, and finance, generate jobs, and continue to develop Laos into a peaceful, independent, united, and prosperous country.
In response, President Sisoulith welcomed the Vietnamese leader, saying that this marks the first official visit to Laos by a senior figures during the Laos - Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022.
He therefore highlighted the visit as a contribution to enhancing ties between the two countries and expressed his pleasure at the tremendous achievements made by Vietnamese people under the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Indeed, particular highlights include COVID-19 prevention and control activities, open its borders, socio-economic recovery, and international integration.
Most notably, the occasion saw both leaders hail the development of the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive co-operation between both sides, with important contributions being made by the two legislative bodies.
They underlined the necessity of boosting traditional co-operation and trust to seriously implement high-level agreements together, as well as striving to further improve the efficiency of bilateral co-operation across all fields. This should be done for the practical benefits of the two peoples, along with promoting and finding solutions to effectively deal with obstacles of important co-operation projects, particularly infrastructure connection projects, along with boosting closer co-ordination in launching a range of activities this year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between the two countries and 45 years of the signing of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.
President Sisoulith said he hopes that the two legislatures will continue with supervision to help effectively implement signed bilateral agreements, intensify experience sharing, particularly in building along with revamping mechanisms and the legal system. Other joint efforts including supporting each other at regional and international forums and closely co-ordinate in matters of regional and international issues for the purpose of peace, stability, co-operation, and development.
