Lawmakers discuss cultural development, solutions to clear stalled projects

VOV.VN - The National Assembly on April 20 continues the second phase of its first session of the 16th tenure, discussing several major issues, including breakthrough mechanisms and policy for Vietnam’s cultural development, a pilot public defender institution, and solutions to continue removing difficulties and obstacles facing stalled, long-delayed projects.

At the start of the morning sitting, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, on behalf of the Prime Minister, will present a proposal on a draft National Assembly resolution on a number of breakthrough mechanisms and policies for cultural development. The Chair of the National Assembly’s Committee for Culture and Social Affairs will then present a  verification report on this draft resolution.

Next, the Minister of Home Affairs, also acting on behalf of the Prime Minister, will present a proposal on the establishment of Dong Nai city as a centrally governed municipality. The Minister of Justice will present a proposal on a draft resolution on the pilot implementation of a public defender institution.

The Chair of the National Assembly’s Committee for Legal and Judicial Affairs will then present verification reports on the two draft resolutions.

Lawmakers will also hold group discussions on draft resolutions on a number of breakthrough mechanisms and policies for cultural development; the pilot public defender institution ; and the establishment of Dong Nai city as a centrally governed municipality.

The morning agenda also includes a closed-door discussion on a draft resolution on specific mechanisms and policies to handle land law violations by organizations and individuals occurring before the 2024 Land Law takes effect, along with solutions to continue removing difficulties and obstacles facing stalled, long-delayed projects.

In the afternoon, the National Assembly will hold a plenary discussion on: a supplementary assessment of the implementation of the 2025 socio-economic development plan and state budget; the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and state budget in the early months of 2026; the five-year socio-economic development plan for 2026-2030; thrift practice and anti-wastefulness work in 2025; and the implementation of national gender equality targets in 2025.

Government members will then speak to clarify a number of issues raised by lawmakers in relation to these contents.

The National Assembly is scheduled to hold its closing session on April 23 and vote to adopt the resolution of its first session of the 16th tenure.
