Lai Chau pushes for broader cooperation with Indian partners

VOV.VN - Ha Trong Hai, vice chairman of the Lai Chau People's Committee, hosted a reception on November 8 for a visiting delegation of the Indian Embassy and the Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL) in the northwestern mountainous province.

Hailing the Vietnam-India comprehensive strategic partnership, Hai expressed his appreciation for support provided by Indian partners to Lai Chau over recent times. This includes scholarships for local civil servants to enhance their foreign language skills in India, as well as funding for a concrete and steel bridge project in Do village of Khong Lao commune in Phong Tho district.

The official therefore requested that the Embassy help connect businesses from Lai Chau and India in the areas of tourism, agriculture, mining, and education. He also underlined  the need for support the acceleration of the official export of Lai Chau's cinnamon to the Indian market.

Furthermore, he suggested encouraging Indian enterprises to transfer black tea processing technology to Lai Chau's businesses.

Highlighting India’s abundant co-operation potential with Lai Chau, particularly in sectors such as tea, cinnamon processing, and tourism, Indian Deputy Ambassador Subhash P. Gupta affirmed that the South Asian country always welcomes and remains ready to support a delegation of Lai Chau firms to visit and implement tourism and trade-investment promotion activities.

With IREL capable of exploiting 10,000 tonnes of rare earth minerals annually, D.Singh, chairman and managing director of the IREL, expressed his desire to explore the possibility of further co-operation with the Vietnamese side in rare earth processing.

Hai used the occasion to pledge to offer optimal conditions for and accompany Indian enterprises in conducting surveys and establishing long-term investments and business operations in Lai Chau. He also expressed his hope for fresh development steps to be made in co-operation between the province and Indian partners moving forward.
