Justice ministry hosts online ASEAN Law Forum 2020

The Ministry of Justice in coordination with ASEAN member countries and the ASEAN Secretariat held an online law forum on November 4.

The ASEAN Law Forum 2020 had the theme of “ASEAN experience sharing of enhanced efficiency in law implementation, and enforcement of court judgements and decisions in civil matters”.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister Nguyen Khanh Ngoc said the Vietnamese Government has put forth programmes, plans, and solutions for law building, while ensuring efficiency in the enforcement of laws and court judgements and decisions in civil matters.

There remain limitations in the work, however, which require great efforts to overcome, he pointed out.

“Vietnam wishes to share its knowledge and experience with other ASEAN member countries as well as nations worldwide,” Ngoc said.

ASEAN Deputy Secretary General Robert Matheus Michael Tene praised the ministry’s efforts in organising the online forum in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung, who is also General Secretary of the National ASEAN 2020 Committee, said the justice ministry's hosting of the legal forum will contribute to Vietnam’s success in its capacity as the ASEAN Chair 2020, especially as the 37th ASEAN Summit is on the horizon.

Within the framework of the forum, experts from the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Germany and France introduced outstanding models on the issue from foreign countries.
