Joint efforts aim to realize full potential of Vietnam–Japan strategic partnership

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for stronger efforts from both Vietnam and Japan to deepen their longstanding friendship and comprehensive cooperation, grounded in mutual trust, understanding, and goodwill.

He urged the effective implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, thereby contributing to peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and beyond.

During a meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki on April 18, the Government leader laid stress on the need to bolster cooperation across key areas such as politics, diplomacy, economic development, science and technology, digital transformation, food security, and high-quality human resource training.

He also underlined the importance of defence and security cooperation, especially in counter-terrorism, cybersecurity, and UN peacekeeping operations. Chinh encouraged further expansion of bilateral trade and better market access for both countries’ goods.

Referring to the smooth progress of major joint projects, the cabinet leader shared plans to launch new flagship initiatives, including the Vietnam–Japan University and Cho Ray Hospital. He expressed hope that Japan will continue its support with capital, advanced technology, and investment, and asked for assistance in resolving issues at the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, a trilateral project between Vietnam, Japan, and Kuwait.

Hailing the considerable contributions of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Vietnam’s socio-economic development, PM Chinh called for more new-generation ODA with simplified procedures, focusing on large-scale projects.

For his part, Ambassador Naoki congratulated Vietnam on successfully hosting the fourth Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit. He said the country is entering a new phase of dynamic and prosperous development, while reaffirming that his nation remains Vietnam’s closest and most trusted partner in this journey.

The ambassador reiterated Japan’s interest in boosting cooperation in areas such as human resource development, green transition, and within the Asia Zero Emissions Community (AZEC), as well as in providing new-generation ODA.

He underlined Japan’s intention to help Vietnam develop strategic infrastructure, including high-speed railways and urban rail systems, and called for more information exchange to ensure effective co-operation.

Ambassador Naoki thanked PM Chinh for his timely direction in resolving issues related to key Japanese projects in Vietnam. He said he hopes that the Vietnamese Government will continue to guide relevant ministries and agencies in improving the investment climate and streamlining administrative procedures, particularly those concerning electricity supply.

He proposed greater market access for Japanese fruits in Vietnam and affirmed Japan’s commitment to improving conditions for welcoming more Vietnamese guest workers in the near future.
