International conference seeks to reinforce Vietnam-India partnership
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) organised an international conference on June 15 running with the theme of “50 years of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and India: Retrospect and prospects”.
As part of his opening remarks at the function, Bui Nhat Quang, president of the VASS, said that the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is based on both nations’ long-standing historical and cultural links. This is along with similar values and interests, mutual understanding, as well as shared commitments to international law. The two nations also enjoy strategic trust, share various interests, and support each other in regional and international mechanisms and forums.
Bilateral co-operation will primarily focus on trade, sustainable development goals, the defence industry, cyber security, navigation security, post-pandemic recovery, technology, civil nuclear, and renewable energy in the future.
Pham Cao Cuong, deputy director of the Institute of Indian and Southwest Asian Studies, said that Vietnam and India are entering the 50th year of their official diplomatic ties, as well as the fifth year of comprehensive strategic partnership.
This connection will bring about great prosperity and fresh opportunities to millions of people and firms of the two countries. Therefore, all activities aimed at promoting political and strategic dialogue, strengthening educational co-operation and expanding collaboration programmes on defence will be prioritised, he said. Cuong also suggested that the two sides boost regional and global supply chain diversification moving past the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. PanKaj Jha of the Indian institution Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA) highlighted Vietnam as an attractive destination to foreign investors, including those from India.
Both nations should strive to take advantage of foreign policies to effectively accelerate co-operation programmes across a variety of fields, Jha said.
Participants also made proposals on a range of specific measures to competently implement the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership moving forward.
