Innovation and digital governance cooperation with Switzerland in sharp focus

VOV.VN -Vietnam is pursuing stronger cooperation with Switzerland in innovation, high-tech human resource development, and digital governance.

As part of National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man’s working trip to Switzerland, NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai and Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, together with a Vietnamese delegation, visited and held working sessions at the Swiss Federal Technology Institute of Lausanne (EPFL) on July 29.

Antoine Jourdan, EPFL executive and Director of Switzerland Innovation Park, warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed his delight at the positive and longstanding development of Switzerland–Vietnam relations. He expressed hope that the visit would achieve good results.

On this occasion, Jourdan provided an overview of EPFL’s founding history and academic programs, which focus on engineering, computer science, natural sciences, architecture, and related fields.

He also introduced the EPFL Innovation Park, one of Switzerland’s major innovation centers where technology companies, startups, research institutes, and innovation organizations collaborate on innovative, high-tech, and next-generation industrial projects.

The Innovation Park is surrounded by leading academic institutions such as UNIL, IMD, HES-SO, ECAL, and several others.

On behalf of the delegation, NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai showed his great joy at visiting EPFL during the top Vietnamese legislator’s working trip to Switzerland. He was impressed by the university’s training programs and its forward-looking vision for innovation.

As one of Switzerland’s most prestigious universities, EPFL holds great potential for strengthening innovation cooperation between the two countries and for joint efforts in developing high-quality human resources in advanced technology sectors.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai also informed the university about the issuance of Resolution No. 57, dated December 22, 2024, by the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The resolution identifies science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as strategic breakthroughs and key drivers for national socio-economic development and global competitiveness. He expressed hope that relevant parties from both sides would explore and implement joint projects between the Swiss government and enterprises, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) development in Vietnam.

Members of the delegation also raised questions to EPFL regarding issues such as how the university mobilizes and sustains funding to operate dozens of on-site innovation and R&D centers, as well as what support programs are available for individuals pioneering innovation.

Later the same day, the Vietnamese delegation visited the headquarters of SICPA, a Swiss technology group specializing in digital security solutions. During the meeting, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai shared plans for future cooperation and welcomed the group’s projects in the field of digital governance solutions.
