India’s Independence Day marked in HCM City

VOV.VN - The 78th anniversary of India’s Independence Day was celebrated on August 14 by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) and the Vietnam-India Friendship Association in the city.

Huynh Thanh Lap, president of the association, extended his greetings to the Indian people on this occasion, congratulating them on the great achievements they have recorded in their national construction and development process.

Since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties back in 1972 and the comprehensive strategic partnership in 2016, relations between the two nations have made great strides, with consolidated strategic trust achieved through close co-operation between ministries and agencies, as well as regular meetings between high-ranking leaders, he said.

Lap also appreciated the attention local leaders have given to the bilateral friendship, with this being reflected through various meetings held between them and representatives from the association, as well as the Ambassador and the Consul General of India, during which they looked into the possibility of linkages within the people-to-people exchange framework between the two countries.

He cited statistics indicating that as of April, India had run 402 projects in the country, ranking 26th among the 141 countries and territories investing in the Southeast Asian nation.

Lap noted that such achievements, along with results of the recent state visit to India by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, will serve to create a firm foundation for the two countries to foster greater co-operation and record more bilateral trade.

Indian Consul General Madan Mohan Sethi stressed both sides are connected by not only the history, but also the values of peace, collaboration, and mutual respect both are pursuing.

Recalling PM Chinh’s visit, Sethi said it helped to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership with a joint statement. The goal is to build more political-strategic trust; deepen defence-security ties; and create more substantial and effective economic-trade-investment collaboration, broader co-operation in science-technology, and closer cultural-tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

The diplomat expressed his hope that more activities will be launched moving forward, which in turn will contribute to boosting joint ties.
