Important milestone brings Vietnam-Iran relations to new heights

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to Iran Luong Quoc Huy has highlighted the upcoming visit to Iran as an important milestone in taking joint ties to new heights.

National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue will lead a high-ranking NA delegation to pay an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran from August 8 to August 10 following the invitation of Speaker of the Iranian Consultative Assembly Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

According to details given by Ambassador Huy, the visit is of great significance as it takes place as part of the occasion of the 50th anniversary of both nations’ diplomatic relations which started in 1973, with the two countries promoting multilateral diplomacy and international integration, with a particular focus on economic diplomacy.

This is also the first visit being made by a top Vietnamese legislator to Iran since 1999, showing that leaders of the two countries attach great importance to and desire to continue strengthening and expanding political and economic ties whilst boosting cross cultural exchange between the two developing nations.

During the course of the visit, the Vietnamese NA leader will hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf,  and chair the law and policy forum to promote economic, trade, and investment ties. He is also set to give a speech on foreign policy at the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS), attend the opening of Vietnam Culture Week in Iran, and will visit some cultural, scientific, and high-tech facilities.

“It is very meaningful that during this visit, relevant agencies, ministries and localities of the two countries will exchange contents and sign a host of cooperation documents, which serves as an important basis for boosting cooperation in economy, trade, investment, agriculture, science and technology, quality standards, sports, culture and in the fields of justice and law.

Most notably, the two legislatures will sign a Memorandum of Understanding which is the first cooperation document signed between both nations’ law-making bodies to perform their function in supervising the implementation of agreements signed between Government agencies and localities of the two nations. Besides, many other documents will be signed on this occasion," the Vietnamese diplomat said.

The law and policy forum to augment economic, trade, and investment linkages is one of the highlights of this visit and will feature the participation of leaders of ministries, sectors, and localities of the two countries, especially with the involvement of more than 100 enterprises of both sides in the fields of trade, agriculture, high technology, chemicals, and banking.

The forum is widely viewed as a being an excellent trading opportunity for businesses of the two sides, as well as for state management agencies seeking to grasp the needs of businesses and to co-operate to solve difficulties for them.

The visit to Iran by NA Chairman Hue, along with the ones by Vietnamese Party and State leaders, this year vividly demonstrate the nation’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, and proactive international integration, multilateralisation, and diversification of international relations, set out by the 13th National Party Congress.

With the results achieved during the visit to Iran by NA President Hue, the Vietnamese Ambassador stated that, “I believe that through the visit, the relationship between Vietnam and Iran will be elevated to new heights with more practical and effective results.”
