Ho Chi Minh City looks to stronger all-around cooperation with US
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc received a U.S. delegation led by U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks and Colonel Andrew Pate, commander of a U.S. Coast Guard vessel, on November 2, with discussions on expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
At the reception, Duoc expressed pleasure at positive developments in Vietnam-US relations between HCM City and US partners. He noted that the visit by the US Coast Guard cutter helps strengthen bilateral defense and security cooperation, particularly in maritime security.
On development priorities, the municipal leader said HCM City is accelerating economic restructuring and transforming its growth model based on science, technology, and innovation, while reducing reliance on low-cost labor. The city seeks to attract international financial institutions, including US organizations, to build an international financial center in HCM City.
The city also focuses on high-quality human resource training, clean energy projects, and seaport and logistics infrastructure. Duoc requested the Ambassador's support in connecting and encouraging US investors to enter these priority areas.
HCM City pledges to carry out signed agreements and offer favorable conditions for US enterprises to operate long-term.
Duoc emphasized that the city attaches importance to resolving war consequences, thanking the US Government for supporting Agent Orange/dioxin remediation and post-war issues. He called for broader cooperation in this field, including the search and recovery of martyrs' remains.
In response, Ambassador Jennifer Wicks appreciated HCM City's support for local US businesses and organizations, and expressed a desire to promote cooperation in energy, education, healthcare, human resource development, and finance.
The Ambassador confirmed the commitment of US enterprises to energy projects in the southern metropolis, including LNG gas-to-power projects, while proposing more dialogue to resolve obstacles in the investment environment, mechanisms, and policies.
She added that the US values cooperation with Vietnam in settling war consequences, healthcare, and people-to-people exchanges, hoping to continue practical cooperation programs.
Captain Andrew Pate thanked HCM City leaders for the reception, expecting the visit to augment cooperation between the two countries' relevant forces in ensuring maritime security and responding to maritime challenges.
