HCM City, Thailand promote citizen diplomacy

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City is set to join with localities in Thailand, including Bangkok, to ramp up co-operation and connectivity as agreed by Nguyen Thi Le, chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council, and Wiraka Moodhitaporn, Thai Consul General.

During their meeting held on April 26 in the southern city, Moodhitaporn thanked the Vietnamese metropolis for its supply of COVID-19 vaccines to Thai people in the locality over recent times.

The newly-accredited Consul General said that during her tenure she will make greater efforts to boost trade, investment, and tourism, as well as people-to-people exchanges.

Currently, Thailand ranks 12th out of a total of 116 countries and territories investing in Ho Chi Minh City, with 235 projects worth more than US$482 million, she said, adding that the neighbouring country is striving to be in the top five investing in the Vietnamese market.

In response, Le said she hopes that the Thai office and Ho Chi Minh City will launch more cultural promotion programmes and enhance people-to-people exchanges.

The official went on to express her wish that Moodhitaporn will make remarkable contributions to fostering relations between Thailand and Vietnam, as well as Ho Chi Minh City and Thai localities.
