HCM City seeks broader cooperation with Belarus

VOV.VN - Vo Van Hoan, vice chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evgeny Shestakov have discussed ways to promote ties, cultural exchanges, people-to-people diplomacy, economic and trade links, and government and business dialogue with a view of further deepening the strong traditional friendship between the two nations.

At a recent reception for the Belarusian guest, the municipal leader expressed his joy at the prospect of the official visit to Vietnam by Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko from December 6 to December 9, stating his great appreciation for the activities of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evgeny Shestakov in the southern city on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations and 12 years since the signing of a memorandum of understanding on co-operative relations between Ho Chi Minh City and Minsk.

Hoan affirmed that the southern metropolis has been making great efforts alongside the nation to boost friendly linkages and development across multiple fields as a means of contributing to spurring economic growth whilst further deepening the strong traditional relationship cultivated by both nations’ leaders.

Regarding the socio-economic situation of Ho Chi Minh City over recent years, Hoan briefed his guest on foreign investment attraction and emphasized that the city's development goal moving forward is to achieve green growth towards becoming an international financial centre.

The city therefore proposed intensifying trade promotion activities in order to create a wealth of opportunities for businesses of the two countries as they co-operate in investment; launching Belarus days in Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa with cultural exchange activities such as fashion shows, cuisine festival, and tourism activities.

It will also organise exchange activities between Belarusian students and businesses, open more tours, travel routes, and direct flights between the two nations.

Congratulating the Republic of Belarus on the official opening of its Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, Hoan stated that this demonstrates the development of sound relations which exist between the two countries, while stressing his hope that there will be more activities held in the southern metropolis put on by the Consulate General of Belarus.

The city pledges to fully support the Consulate General as it seeks to help it operate effectively and practically, especially activities related to investment attraction, trade promotion, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges between the city and Belarusian localities.

In response, Deputy Minister Shestakov stated that the two countries will together overcome difficulties and epidemics, striving to restore economic development.

The visit of Belarusian Prime Minister Golovchenko to Vietnam and the leader of Minsk city to Ho Chi Minh City will contribute to tightening relations and promoting the two countries' mutual development.

He added that he believes the Belarusian Consulate General will promote the potential that exists for promoting co-operative relations across a multitude of fields, through co-operation programmes with the city, thereby making it possible for both sides to launch more projects in the future.
