VOV.VN - Duong Anh Duc, vice chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, received Tim Pallas,Treasurer of Australia’s Victoria state, to discuss ways to boost co-operation between the two localities.

Expressing his pleasure at welcoming the Victorian delegation amid the co-operation relationship between Vietnam and Australia developing well to become more and more in-depth and effective, Anh Duc said, that on the basis of sound mutual ties, Ho Chi Minh City has maintained friendly relations with many localities in Australia. A prime example of this is the state of Victoria and Ho Chi Minh City signing an agreement to establish friendly relations and boost co-operation in May, 2022.

Regarding the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City in 2022 and the southern city's development orientation, the municipal leader outlined that future development orientations will create more opportunities to build ties with Australia, including Victoria, especially in areas where the Australian state has strengths.

First of all, both sides need to complete a co-operative action programme between the two localities, with a specific focus on investment development, logistics, biotechnology, health care, and education.

This is in addition to improving the overall quality of human resources and promoting two-way trade between Vietnam and Australia, as well as between Ho Chi Minh City and Victoria.

Anh Duc went on to express a keen desire to boost co-operation and exchanges, as well as learning from Victoria's experience in the field of digital transformation, climate change response, co-operation in start-ups and innovation, especially in improving the overall quality of staff working in economic development and public administration.

The two localities will jointly study and propose to select practical and effective contents to be implemented in 2023 to bring the co-operation relationship into reality towards meeting specific goals, thereby bringing benefits to the two localities.

In response, Pallas who is also Victoria’s Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Trade and Investment, said his visit aims to open the Victorian Trade and Investment Representative Office in Ho Chi Minh City and realise the contents of the agreements signed between Victoria and Ho Chi Minh City.

Expressing his positive impression and admiration for outstanding Vietnamese economic development over recent years, Pallas said that Victoria can learn a lot from Vietnamese economic development achievements.

In contrast, the state of Victoria is willing to exchange and share experiences with Vietnam, particularly Ho Chi Minh City in areas of its strength.

In the immediate future, Victoria and the southern metropolis will jointly select the implementation of a number of projects and key areas of mutual interest to realize and ensure agreements signed by both sides.
Victoria is one of the main sponsors of the dialogue scheme between Australian and Vietnamese leaders.

The first programme will be held in Ho Chi Minh City in the coming time with a meeting between 10 leaders of the two countries, as well as the programme then being held in Melbourne, the capital of Victoria.
