HCM City marks first anniversary of Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
VOV.VN - The first anniversary of the Vietnam- US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was celebrated by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) on November 12, with the event demonstrating friendship between the people of the southern metropolis and those from the US.
At the ceremony, Pham Thanh Kien, vice chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council and chairman of the Vietnam - US Friendship Association of the City, highlighted the progress made in terms of citizen diplomacy between the two sides as a result of actively cultivating and upgrading the relationship between the two countries to that of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership towards 2025 which marks the first anniversary since the upgrading of ties.
US President Joe Biden stated that the upgrade of the relationship between Vietnam and the US is only the first step toward the future of bilateral relations, Kien said.
In recent times, the two countries have actively launched a broad array of effective co-operation activities regarding educational development, student exchanges, and environmental protection.
Both sides have carried out collaboration projects in a bid to build the resilience capacity for coastal mangrove ecosystems, strengthen the Mekong Delta Partnership, and augment linkages under the Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs).
These projects will not only contribute to strengthening co-operation between the people of the two countries, but also create practical values for the future.
The municipal leader used the occasion in order to thank US officials and the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City for their contributions to deepening the relationship between the two nations, as well as their engagement in the people-to-people exchange activities, thus further fostering the friendship between the two countries.
Susan Burns, US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, showed her elation at the expansion of ties across a variety of areas since the upgrade of the bilateral relations, saying that this has brought about plenty of benefits to the people of both nations.
Collaboration in terms of trade, investment, law enforcement, health, veteran exchanges, and education is based on mutual understanding, trust, and the friendship between the two countries’ people, she said.
Susan thanked HUFO for its efforts to deepen the friendship that exists between the two nations over the past three decades, stressing that ahead in 2025, the two sides will continue to enhance their diplomatic relationship with many commemorative activities. She said she hopes for new initiatives to step up co-operation in the fields of science - technology, education, and workforce development; and opportunities for people-to-people exchanges.
Rafik Mansour, deputy assistant secretary of Policy at the US State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, hailed efforts made by HUFO and Ho Chi Minh City’s people in reinforcing people-to-people relations, saying that they have contributed to further propelling the relationship between the two countries forward.
