HCM City leader meets heads of representative agencies abroad

VOV.VN - Vo Van Hoan, vice chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, held a working session on January 25 with a delegation of newly-appointed heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, led by Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, permanent representative of Vietnam to the UN, WTO, and other international organisations in Geneva, Switzerland.

The municipal leader informed the diplomat about the southern city’s current situation, while stating that the largest economic hub in the south is currently striving to renovate its economy, with a particular focus on high technology industries, as well as green and sustainable development in an effort to retain its role as the country’s economic growth driver.

The southern metropolis therefore needs external resources during its development process, Hoan emphasized, while suggesting ambassadors and heads of representative agencies abroad move to introduce and call on foreign financiers to invest in transport infrastructure, urban development, and new technology industries in the city.

The official also requested that diplomats advise international partners to help Ho Chi Minh City to build a policy framework and engage in new areas of the city such as the building of an international financial centre and smart urban development.

Furthermore, the southern city also wishes to be supported by the diplomats in external affairs, thereby further enhancing the efficiency of co-operation with international partners, Hoan said.

On behalf of the delegation, Ambassador Dung said that the newly-appointed ambassadors and heads of representative agencies abroad are highly aware of their responsibilities in contributing to the growth of the city. They have pledged to work hard to promote its ongoing integration and development process through specific and practical actions such as supporting investment attraction activities, promoting exports, and both building and fine-tuning policies.

At the meeting, the newly-appointed ambassadors to Thailand, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Kuwait, Qatar, Cuba, and the Consul General in Vancouver of Canada gave recommendations to help Ho Chi Minh City to enhance its connections with foreign localities and step up co-operation with foreign partners in the areas of economics, investment, trade, and people-to-people exchanges.
