HCM City, Belgium’s Flanders ramp up cooperation
VOV.VN -Ho Chi Minh City always hails investment and trade with the Flanders region and many other Belgian localities, said Phan Van Mai, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, on September 14 while hosting the Minister – President of the Government of the Belgian region Jan Jambon.
Mai stressed that Jambon's working trip came amid the two nations celebrating the 50th anniversary of joint diplomatic ties, along with the fifth anniversary of their strategic partnership in agriculture.
Highlighting the southern city’s strengths and potential, the municipal leader said that the metropolis welcomes investment from enterprises of Flanders and Belgium as a whole in the fields of seaport infrastructure development, clean energy development, and green urban area development.
The city therefore stands ready to work alongside Flanders towards achieving specific co-operation between businesses of both sides, he said, requesting that Flanders’ authorities enhance connectivity, whilst building co-ordination mechanisms to boost trade and investments between firms, thereby contributing to joint trade ties.
In response, Jambon underscored the similarities and co-operation potential that Ho Chi Minh City and Flanders boasts, noting that their seaports have an important position in sea transport in the region.
He went on to note that boosting the waterways connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and Flanders will not only improve connections between Vietnam and Belgium, but also between Asia and Europe as a whole.
Flanders is therefore willing to share experience and promote co-operation with the southern city in the fields of its strengths, including the development of seaport infrastructure, transport, wind power, and circular industrial parks, he said.
While in Vietnam, Jambon is scheduled to attend and deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the four Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum slated for September 15 under the theme of “Green growth – The Journey to Zero Emissions”.
