HCM City – Austria relations expand

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong and Austrian Ambassador to Vietnam Thomas Loidl have highlighted the development of bilateral cooperation.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong
They met in the southern city of Vietnam on January 16, noting stable economic ties between HCM City and Austria with trade reaching US$149.1 million in 2016.

That included US$29.3 million worth of goods HCM City imported from the European nation such as pharmaceutical products, electronic components and machinery. Meanwhile, the city earned US$119.8 million in shipments with textile-garment, footwear and wood products among key exports.

Austria has 11 investment projects with total capital of US$34.59 million in HCM City at present, they said.

At the meeting, a representative of Frequentis, an Austrian public safety solutions company, presented a solution that merges different phone numbers in the city’s emergency response centre. Phong welcomed this idea.

HCM City currently uses three separate phone numbers for emergencies (113, 114 and 115).
