Hanoi Party officials pay tribute to King Quang Trung

VOV.VN - A delegation from the Hanoi Party Committee led by its Secretary - Politburo member Dinh Tien Dung offered incense on February 5 at the Dong Da Mound, a special national relic site in Hanoi, in tribute to King Quang Trung on the occasion of the 233rd anniversary of the Dong Da-Ngoc Hoi.

The delegation also came together to plant trees at a temple dedicated to the King at the site, with all activities being carried out in line with COVID-19 prevention and control measures.

The Dong Da Mound was a relic of the Dong Da-Ngoc Hoi battle which took place between King Quang Trung’s troops and the Chinese Qing invaders in the spring of 1789. An annual festival is now held at the relic site on the fifth day of the lunar year in order to mark the victory in the fight that halted the Qing dynasty’s plans to occupy Vietnam.

King Quang Trung, who lived from 1753 to 1792 and whose real name is Nguyen Hue, was the second king of the Tay Son dynasty of Vietnam, reigning from 1788 to 1792. He mastered the Tay Son army’s speedy march from Phu Xuan, modern day Hue, to the north in order to defeat 20,000 Qing aggressors and liberate Thang Long citadel in 1789.
