Hanoi, Amsterdam upbeat about growing ties

(VOV) -The relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands have shifted from a development partnership to economic, trade and investment cooperation with bilateral trade surging between 13-14% per year.

On December 9, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai received a Dutch delegation led by Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard Van de Laan on a working visit to Hanoi.

The Netherlands is a strategic partner of Vietnam in climate change, agriculture and food security. The World Bank-funded Mekong Delta project with Dutch assistance are underway to manage water resources and control floods, Hai told his guest.

The Deputy PM appreciated Amsterdam’s current urban management, hoping that the city would continue to cooperate and exchange training programmes and transfer of urban governance capacity to Hanoi.

He confirmed the Vietnamese Government’s willingness to support cooperation projects in energy and waste water treatment between two cities.

The Amsterdam Mayor expressed his impression on the traditional and modern beauty of Hanoi, saying this is similarities between Amsterdam and the capital city.

Both sides should share experiences and expand cooperation by opening a direct air route between the two cities to promote people-to-people exchange, tourism development and tourism.

Vietnam’s remarkable economic achievements enables the Netherlands to serve as a gateway for the Southeast Asian nation to bring its goods to the European market, he added.
