Government leader meets Secretary of Yunnan provincial Party Committee
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with Wang Ning, a member of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and secretary of the Yunnan provincial Party Committee, in Kunming city on November 6 as part of his ongoing working visit to attend the eighth Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Summit and hold bilateral activities in China.
PM Chinh and Wang expressed their joy and positive assessment of the progress made in terms of the relations between the two Parties and countries in recent times, using the event to discuss measures to further augment ties between Vietnamese ministries, sectors, and localities with Yunnan province in the coming time.
The Vietnamese Government chief sincerely thanked the Party Committee, Government, and relevant agencies of Yunnan province for their close and effective co-ordination in flood discharge regulation, thereby helping the Vietnamese side to mitigate the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi.
He acknowledged and highly appreciated the positive progress made in collaboration efforts between all levels and sectors of Vietnam and Yunnan province, while affirming that the Vietnamese Party and Government always places importance on, cares for, supports, and offers favourable conditions for Vietnamese localities to bolster ties with Chinese localities, including Yunnan province.
Highlighting the potential and advantages for linkages between the nation and Yunnan, PM Chinh suggested that the Chinese province take the lead in implementing high-level common perceptions and joint statements, whilst intensifying exchanges with Vietnamese localities.
He therefore called for efforts to elevate Vietnam-Yunnan trade turnover to US$5 billion and make Yunnan and Lao Cai centres for trade connectivity between China and ASEAN.
He also suggested piloting a smart border gate model, stepping up co-ordination in flood discharge regulation and disaster prevention, and streamlining procedures for Vietnamese citizens based in Yunnan.
The Vietnamese cabinet leader expressed his hope at the prospect of building close ties between the two sides in managing and protecting the border in accordance with the three land border agreements and related ones. He also laid stress on combined efforts to mark 25 years since the signing of the Vietnam-China border treaty and the 15th anniversary of the signing of the three legal documents this year.
Agreeing with the Vietnamese leader’s proposals, Wang emphasized that Yunnan values its relations of friendship and co-operation with the Vietnamese side and remains ready to work hand in hand with relevant ministries, sectors, and localities in Vietnam to realise the shared perceptions between Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and Party General Secretary To Lam, as well as the directions and proposals put forward by PM Chinh.
He underlined the need for the two sides to intensify exchanges at all levels whilst working to improve the overall effectiveness of existing co-operation mechanisms, especially the mechanism of meetings among the Party Secretaries of the five provinces, deepening economic and trade ties, making the most of railway projects linking the two countries, and improving infrastructure connectivity both in railways and roads.
Wang stated that his province desires to ramp up ties with the Vietnamese side in the fields of the locality’s strengths such as green energy, distinctive plateau agriculture, and tourism.
Moreover, Yunnan aims to enhance collaboration with the country in economics, trade, the border economy, and the development of advanced manufacturing sectors. The province is also keen on co-operation in personnel training, poverty reduction, environmental protection, and sustainable development, as well as health care, culture, and education as a contribution to the enhancement of the China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic co-operative partnership, he added.
