Government chief wishes for strengthened academic ties with Tsinghua University

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has expressed his hope that Tsinghua University will beef up cooperation with Vietnamese institutions by providing more scholarships and academic opportunities for Vietnamese lecturers, students, and experts.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a meeting on March 2 in Hanoi with Prof. Dr. Qiu Yong, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who is on a visit to Vietnam.

Welcoming Prof. Dr. Qiu Yong and his delegation, the Vietnamese cabinet leader underlined the importance of their visit to Vietnamese ministries, localities, and universities to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in education, training, and scientific research.

PM Chinh highlighted the close ties between Vietnam and China as neighboring socialist countries with shared mountains and rivers and a longstanding traditional friendship. He recalled that President Ho Chi Minh, Chairman Mao Zedong, and generations of revolutionary leaders from both Parties and countries had built and nurtured the close-knit Vietnam-China relationship, often described as one of ‘comradeship and brotherhood.’

The Vietnamese Party, State, and people consistently regard strengthening friendly cooperation with China as a fundamental policy, an objective necessity, a strategic choice, and a top priority in Vietnam’s independent and self-reliant foreign policy of diversification and multilateralization. Vietnam pledges to work together with the Chinese Party and Government to promote the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the Vietnam-China Community with a Shared Future in a more substantive and effective manner.

Hailing the fruitful cooperation between Tsinghua University and its Vietnamese partners, the Vietnamese Government chief emphasized the significance of the cooperation agreements signed during this visit between Tsinghua University and three leading Vietnamese universities: Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; and the National Economics University. These agreements, he noted, not only boost academic collaboration but also create valuable opportunities for Vietnamese students, lecturers, and researchers to access advanced knowledge, particularly Tsinghua University’s cutting-edge scientific achievements.

Reaffirming Vietnam’s long-held belief that ‘talented individuals are the nation's vital resource,’ Chinh underscored that the Party and State consider education a ‘top national policy.’ The 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam identified human resource development, particularly high-quality human resources, as one of three strategic breakthroughs for the country’s rapid and sustainable development. Notably, the Politburo recently decided to implement full tuition exemptions for students from preschool to high school in the public school system nationwide, starting from the 2025-2026 academic year. This policy demonstrates the superiority of the socialist system and the commitment to ensuring equal access to education, ensuring that no one is left behind.

PM Chinh expressed his hope that Tsinghua University will continue to expand cooperation with Vietnamese institutions by offering more scholarships and academic opportunities for Vietnamese lecturers, students, scientists, and experts to study and conduct research at Tsinghua.

For his part, Prof. Dr. Qiu Yong affirmed his strong commitment to deepening cooperation between Tsinghua University and Vietnamese institutions, in line with the Prime Minister’s guidance. Such efforts, he said, will further enrich and strengthen the substance of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the Vietnam-China Community with a Shared Future.

Prof. Dr. Qiu Yong also congratulated Vietnam on the significant progress and achievements of its education and training sector under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the strong direction of the Vietnamese Government. He pledged to continue bolstering cooperation in education, academic exchange, and scientific research between Tsinghua University and Vietnamese institutions in the time ahead.
