Government chief hails positive developments in Vietnam-China relations

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Le Minh Hung praised the positive developments in Vietnam-China ties during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei in Hanoi on May 12, while calling for stronger cooperation in trade, infrastructure connectivity, technology and tourism.

He also conveyed greetings to Chinese Premier Li Qiang and other Chinese leaders, and spoke highly of the recent state visit to China by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, which he said had produced important results.

According to PM Hung, the visit helped further strengthen political trust, reinforce strategic orientation and boost relations between the two Parties and two countries.

Ambassador He Wei said he was honored to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and conveyed congratulations from Premier Li Qiang and other Chinese leaders.

The ambassador noted positive progress in bilateral ties, particularly frequent high-level exchanges, including the recent state visit to China by To Lam. He said bilateral trade had maintained growth, investment had increasingly shifted toward high technology and innovation, and both nations continued to be among each other’s leading sources of tourists.

The host leader stressed that Vietnam always values China’s support during Vietnam’s past struggle for national independence as well as in the country’s current development process. He reaffirmed that developing relations with China is a consistent policy, an objective requirement, a strategic choice and a top priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification.

PM Hung expressed hope that the two sides would continue close coordination in effectively in realizing the common perceptions reached by the two top leaders, especially by maintaining high-level exchanges, expanding substantive cooperation across sectors and working toward the successful fulfillment of each country’s development goals.

He also called for efforts to promote balanced, healthy and sustainable bilateral trade; make breakthroughs in strategic infrastructure connectivity, with priority given to railway cooperation; develop cross-border economic corridors, logistics centers, border-gate economic zones and industrial clusters in border areas; speed up the construction of smart border gates; and soon launch synchronized cross-border economic cooperation zones.

The Vietnamese Government chief also proposed that China support and create favorable conditions for Vietnam to participate effectively in the “Sharing the Big Market - China Exports” initiative, further open its market to Vietnamese agricultural, aquatic and livestock products, strengthen cooperation in science and technology and education and training, formulate concrete plans for the 2026-2027 Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Year, and expand healthcare cooperation, including traditional medicine.

Agreeing with the PM’s remarks, Ambassador He Wei affirmed that China attaches importance and high priority to relations with Vietnam. He said China would work with Vietnam to implement high-level common perceptions, deepen practical cooperation and jointly build stable supply and production chains.

He Wei also welcomed Vietnam’s participation in the “Sharing the Big Market - China Exports” initiative to facilitate exports of Vietnamese goods, particularly agricultural products, to the Chinese market.

He added that China is ready to share experience in developing free trade zones and international financial centers, ramp up railway cooperation, including railway technology and engineering, expand rail connectivity between the two nations toward the Eurasian continent, and broaden cooperation in science, technology, innovation and energy security.
