Front delegation visits RoK, stepping up OV affairs

A delegation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee led by its Vice President Nguyen Huu Dung paid a working visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) from June 4-6, aiming to promote the friendship between the two countries.

The visit was also to realise a conclusion of the Presidium of the VFF Central Committee to implement the Politburo’s Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW dated August 12, 2021 on overseas Vietnamese (OV) affairs in the new situation.

During its stay, the delegation had a working session with the RoK’s Economic, Social and Labour Council (ESLC) on the 2024 – 2029 cooperation programme, visited some localities, and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in the country.

At the meeting with the ESLC, the two sides shared the view that the expansion of cooperation between the VFF and the ESLC will contribute to enhancing connectivity between members of the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (AICESIS), of which both are members.

Besides, the exchange of operational experience will bring practical benefits to people of the two countries, they said.

On behalf of the VFF Central Committee, Dung invited ESLC representatives to visit Vietnam in September, and suggested the council continue encouraging Korean relevant agencies and enterprises to strengthen collaboration with Vietnam in all spheres, especially vocational training, while coordinating in organising exchange programmes and multilateral forums.

He used this occasion to call for more support from the Korean side to the Vietnamese community in the country, particularly Vietnamese-Korean multi-cultural families.

Meeting with leaders of Gyeonggi province, home to a large number of Vietnamese, Dung suggested the locality play a more active role in promoting cooperation in labour, trade and vocational training between the two countries.

The delegation also visited the Vietnamese Embassy and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in the RoK, during which Dung affirmed that the Vietnamese Party, State and VFF always pay attention to OVs, protecting their legitimate interests and rights.

He asked the embassy to coordinate with the Standing Board of the VFF Central Committee to review and raise proposals to perfect mechanisms, policies and laws in support of OVs in the host country./
