Fresh impetus to boost Vietnam-China relations

VOV.VN - After more than seven decades, the comprehensive strategic co-operative partnership between the nation and China has recorded steady growth in an active and extensive manner across a variety of fields, bringing practical benefits to both peoples.

The two sides first established diplomatic relations on January 18, 1950, based on the friendly relationship between President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong.

In the spirit of "good neighbours, good friends, good comrades, good partners", different generations of senior leaders from the two countries have reached many important common perceptions to outline strategic orientations, as well as a long-term vision for the healthy and stable development of joint ties.

The closeness and political trust between the two Parties and the two countries has therefore been promoted through many regular high-level exchanges and contacts, as well as through co-operation and exchange mechanisms between central Party committees, the two legislatures, ministries, sectors, as well as localities.

Political co-operation over recent years has largely been effectively implemented thanks to important mechanisms, such as the two-party co-operation plan for the 2016 to 2020 period and the plan for co-operation in training cadres between the two parties for the period of 2016 to 2020 period. This is along with an agreement on co-operation in training senior cadres between the two Parties for the 2017 to 2020 period, along with many other co-operation plans signed for the 2021 to 2025 period.

The two Parties also regularly work together to organise theoretical seminars, as well as exchanging their respective experience and practices on Party building and national management. This is done in order to further improve the effectiveness of co-operation mechanisms between the two sides as a way of boosting ties in areas of substantive progress.

Both nations' leaders have also agreed to create favourable conditions in which localities, especially border localities, can competently utilise co-operation mechanisms whilst organising and improving the social effects of friendly exchange activities between citizens of the two nations.

In line with this, people-to-people exchanges, especially those between young generations, are becoming increasingly practical as they serve to help deepen mutual understanding and foster the friendship between the two Parties and countries.

The two sides co-ordinated to organise three Vietnam-China Youth Festivals and 19 Vietnam-China Youth Friendship Meetings, as well as many other large-scale people-to-people friendship activities, such as the Border People's Festival and  the Vietnam-China People's Forum. This has significantly contributed to strengthening the solid friendship foundation for Vietnam-China relations as they continue to develop healthily.

In terms of economics, trade, and investment, as well as overcoming the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides have exploited their advantages and promoted practical co-operation in the spirit of mutual benefit.

The country remains China's largest trading partner in ASEAN, as well as being China's sixth largest trading partner in the world.

Last year witnessed the total two-way trade turnover reach US$165.9 billion, up 24.6% compared to 2020.

During the initial eight months of the year, bilateral import and export turnover hit over US$117 billion, up 10.8% compared to the same period from 2021, with China having more than 140 investment projects totally capitalized at US$1.4 billion in the nation, ranking fourth among countries and territories.

Moreover, Vietnamese agricultural exports to China continue to expand, in which two prominent products, such as Vietnamese passion fruit and fresh durian, are officially exported to the neighbouring country.

China has developed into an increasingly important market for Vietnamese agriculture, forestry, and fishery products, with the value of two-way trade in the agricultural sector increasing rapidly over recent years. This is anticipated to continue to record strong growth in the near future.

The country has always placed great importance on consolidating and developing friendly ties, comprehensive co-operation, long-term stability, and looking forward to the future with China.

Mutually beneficial co-operation between the two parties and countries, with the highlight being people-to-people exchanges and strong economic and trade relations, therefore serves as a solid foundation for the future development of bilateral relations.
