Expectations for DPRK-USA Summit

VOV.VN - US President Donald Trump and DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un will continue talks on peace for the Korean peninsula on February 28.

The public hopes the summit will obtain positive result. Spokeswoman for Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Le Thi Thu Hang, said “The world community and I personally  hope the summit will be successful to achieve the goal of stability, peace, prosperity, and denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.”

Wang Junsheng, Director of the Department of China’s Regional Strategy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said “I’m optimistic about the summit. The US and the DPRK have momentums to make breakthrough in the 2nd summit. The DPRK wants an international peaceful environment, so it should improve relations with the US. President Donald Trump wants to soon resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula.”

Jung Rina, a reporter of Asia Today, said “I covered the APEC 2017 summit and RoK President’s visit to Vietnam. But this summit gives me much experience. I believe that the US, the RoK, and the DPRK will have more opportunities for dialogues and gradually achieve peace on the Korean peninsula.”

People wait along streets near hotels where the two leader stay

A foreign tourist to Vietnam shares his view “Congratulation! All people will have a good time in Hanoi.”

Nguyen Thi Yen waits outside Metropole Hotel with a big hope to see President Trump and Chairman Kim. “Normally, the streets are very crowded. Today streets are decorated beautifully and orderly. I’m waiting here to see Trump and Kim. Many foreign tourists are waiting for them. They know about Pyongyang on TV. But if they can see Chairman Kim in Hanoi, they feel they have a more interesting travel.”

Tran Phong, a photographer coming from Da Nang said, “I’m proud when Vietnam hosts the summit. Hanoi is beautifully decorated with national flags of Vietnam, the US, and the DPRK. I wish the summit success. Vietnam is a conciliator among countries.”

Many shops in Hanoi have sold the summit-themed products. Truong Thanh Duc sells T-shirts with images of President Trump and Chairman Kim.

“I respect the two leaders. One represents the world’s biggest technology power. And one desires for national development”, said Thanh Duc. 

Le Thi Phuong, the owner of a hat shop said “The weather forecast says it’ll be rainy the whole week. The two leaders may want to take a walk on the streets. They should wear Vietnamese conical hats.”
