Emulation movement for combined COVID-19 containment efforts launched
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh launched a special emulation movement on August 14 calling on citizens nationwide to remain united and co-ordinate efforts in the ongoing battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The movement was launched on August 14 in Hanoi during the first meeting of the Central Emulation and Rewards Council for the 2021 to 2026 tenure.
PM Chinh, who is also chairman of the council, stated that the COVID-19 pandemic, with the emergence of new variants which are more contagious and dangerous, has been developing in a complicated manner in many localities, thereby causing a serious impact on society, the local economy, and people’s livelihoods. It could possibly be a prolonged challenge, although it is currently posing major challenges to the country’s pandemic fight and socio-economic recovery efforts.
He therefore requested that authorities at all levels, organisations, agencies, localities, and people across the country, focus their attention on the key tasks of encouraging all people to actively participate in the ongoing fight to successfully contain the virus, halt community transmission, and protect people’s health and lives. This should be done while simultaneously promoting production and business activities as a means of helping to boost economic recovery and development efforts, create resources to fight the virus, along with guaranteeing social security, especially for the disadvantaged.
The Government chief went on to express his confidence that through the joint efforts and the unanimity of the entire Party, people, and army, along with support from the overseas Vietnamese and the international community, the country will definitely defeat the pandemic and soon bring life back to new normal.
During the course of the meeting, the PM’s decision on appointments of officials to the Central Emulation and Rewards Council was also announced.
Accordingly, the council will consist of 19 members. Its vice chairpersons are President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra, and President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour Nguyen Dinh Khang.
During the meeting, discussions largely focused on draft working regulations of the council, task performance outcomes in the first seven months of the year, and key tasks set for the rest of the year.
