Vietnam to review 10 years of implementing national defence strategy

VOV.VN - The Steering Committee for formulating a masterplan aimed at reviewing a decade of implementing the Party’s Resolution on National Defense Strategy in the New Context held its first session in Hanoi on February 10.

The meeting chaired by State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc was attended by a number of Politburo and Central Party Committee members, including Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh, Defence Minister Phan Van Giang, and Public Security Minister To Lam.

The eighth conference of the 11th Central Party Committee in 2013 adopted a resolution on the national defence strategy in the new situation, outlining clear objectives, viewpoints, guiding principles, tasks, and solutions for national defence in the context of changing political and security landscape regionally and globally.

In October, 2021, the Political Bureau decided to establish a steering committee which would conduct a review of 10 years of implementing the strategy.

Addressing the event, President Phuc emphasised the importance of the resolution and said it is necessary to re-evaluate the implementation of the resolution in the context of extensive Vietnamese international integration over the past decade.

According to the State President, the Party, army, and people have gradually finalised development institutions, promoted the strength of the great national unity bloc, grasped opportunities, and firmly defended the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Fatherland. They have also stood firm to protect the Party, State, people, as well as the socialist regime, ensure social security and order, and maintained a peaceful and stable environment for co-operation and development.

He pointed out that the armed forces, including the army and the police, have grown strong in terms of both quality and quantity, making up the central core for defending the Fatherland.

The President requested that relevant agencies make clear successes and shortcomings in implementing the resolution from a central to grassroots levels in order to learn from experience. He also reminded the delegates of the issue of institutionalising the resolution into laws to successfully build a socialist state governed by law, develop socio-economic affairs closely linked to national defence and security, maintain social stability, and develop an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.
