Vietnam marks 80 years of Government with call for unity, innovation, prosperity
VOV.VN - Senior Vietnamese leaders urged all officials and people along with the business community to uphold tradition, foster unity, and embrace innovation in order to build a prosperous, civilised, and happy Vietnam in the new era, at a meeting in Hanoi on August 20 to mark 80 years of the Government.

In his speech, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his profound gratitude to generations of leaders of the Party and the State, as well as to members of the Government, leaders of ministries, sectors and localities throughout different periods who had always united and devoted themselves to the nation and people.
He recalled the historic milestone of August 28, 1945, when the Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam announced to the world the formation of the new Government and introduced the National Unity Cabinet of 15 members led by President Ho Chi Minh. This marked the birth of the first revolutionary Government in the long history of the Vietnamese nation.
Over the past 80 years, the PM emphasised, despite many upheavals, the Government has consistently pursued the goal of national independence associated with socialism, striving for the happiness of the people and recording historic achievements in all fields. He highlighted the achievements of the Government in safeguarding and consolidating the fruits of the August 1945 Revolution, leading the people to victory in the resistance war against French colonialism with the culmination of the Dien Bien Phu triumph, and making decisive contributions to the success of the resistance war against American imperialism, leading to national liberation and reunification.
He noted that the Government organised post-war reconstruction, carried out the reform policy, and opened the country to international integration. It firmly defended independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, maintained political stability and social order, and pushed forward the streamlining of the political apparatus to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
Looking ahead, the Prime Minister affirmed that the Government must always be the servant of the people, placing their interests above all else. He called on officials and civil servants to uphold responsibility, act decisively, and be courageous in thinking, doing, and assuming responsibility for the common good.
At the same time, he urged the people, Vietnamese expatriates abroad, and the business community to nurture patriotism, self-reliance, solidarity, and compassion in order to join hands with the Government to build a prosperous, democratic, civilized, and happy Vietnam.

Taking the floor, Party General Secretary To Lam affirmed that over the past 80 years, successive Governments have laid the foundations for the nation’s transformation. Every five-year plan, every national target programme, and every strategic infrastructure project has served as a building block in the great cause of national construction. Every initiative to alleviate poverty, broaden social welfare, modernise agriculture, and develop new rural areas has acted as a bridge to ensure that no citizen is left behind.
The General Secretary stressed that in foreign affairs, the Government, together with the entire political system, has steadfastly followed the path of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, while actively engaging in international integration. He highlighted the new-generation free trade agreements, the strategic infrastructure projects, highways, seaports, airports, industrial zones, and high-tech parks that have sprung up across the country as vivid evidence of Vietnam’s transformation.
According to the General Secretary, the core values of the Government can be encapsulated in the principles of courage, discipline, solidarity, integrity, action, creativity, efficiency, and service to the people, with the ultimate goal of ensuring the well-being and happiness of every citizen. He called on generations of officials and leaders to continue to accompany the present Government with candid contributions, inspirational guidance, and support for the younger generation. He expressed the hope that they would pass on the valuable “art of governance,” and become a “warm flame” to guide today’s officials through difficult times as the country confidently steps into a new era.
