Top Party, State leader makes field trip to flood-hit areas in Tuyen Quang

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary and President To Lam on September 12 made a field trip to northern Tuyen Quang province which recently experienced dike breaches, to inspect flood and storm prevention efforts and to visit people severely affected by Typhoon Yagi.

He visited and presented gifts to residents taking shelter from the typhoon at the Cultural House of Phu Tho 1 village, Truong Sinh Commune, Son Duong District. He inquired about the well-being of those affected by Yagi, urging them to overcome difficulties.

The Party and State are always concerned and will provide full support to help the residents quickly stabilize their lives once floodwaters recede, the leader reaffirmed.

To Lam encouraged the residents to support each other in stabilizing their lives, and at the same time asked Tuyen Quang province to take care of displaced residents, and introduce post-flood recovery solutions to stabilize the residents’ economic and production activities.

He then inspected local flood and storm prevention efforts, including dike repairs, embankment reinforcement, and fortification at the dike system along the Lo River in Son Duong District.

Water levels of the Lo River were receding, and various forces, including police, military, local authorities, and organizations, were working hard to address the aftermath of flooding.

To Lam acknowledged the province’s flood and storm prevention efforts and reminded relevant forces to provide sufficient essential supplies for residents, with priority given to the elderly, women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

He asked local authorities and people not to be complacent or neglectful as another storm is likely to form and batter Vietnam in the coming days.

The Party and State leader then had a working session with provincial authorities.

It was reported at the meeting that Yagi has left three dead, 3,000 houses affected, and many schools, hospitals, and government offices inundated or damaged. Additionally, more than 4,300 hectares of rice fields were impacted.

Heavy rain caused a dike breach along the Lo River in Son Duong District, resulting in the flooding of 40 hectares of rice and subsidiary crops. Local authorities mobilized forces to close the breach and increase patrols to timely detect any unusual occurrences.

In his speech, To Lam expressed his condolences to the families who have lost loved ones due to the storm and flooding. He said the Politburo has directed the entire political system to rescue people, search for the missing, and provide daily essential supplies for affected people to ensure no one is left without food, clothing, shelter, or support.

To Lam urged for regular inspections and immediate mitigation of risks related to dike systems, reservoirs, and bridges. He emphasized the need for contingency plans to manage floodwaters and proactively relocate people in emergencies.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of swiftly implementing rescue and relief measures, delivering food and supplies directly to those in need, and rapidly restoring normal socio-economic activities.

Attention should be given to environmental sanitation, repairing and restoring transportation infrastructure, power supply and communication systems, schools, and hospitals, he said, adding that the province should vigilantly prevent and control potential disease outbreaks after floodwaters recede.
