Top Party leader requests deliberately handling notorious graft cases

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has shown his strong resolve to deliberately handle notorious corruption cases that have captured great public attention in recent times in order to uproot corruption.

Notorious cases such as the test kit scandal at Viet A Technologies JSC, the share manipulation scandal at FLC Group, and the medical supply procurement violations at AIC – Vietnam Valuation and Investment JSC, should be tackled deliberately, Trong said at a conference in Hanoi on June 19 to review corruption prevention in localities.

He even stressed to need to cross off anyone who commit violations from the list of candidates to executive boards of Party organisations in the next tenure.

According to the top Party leader, members of the provincial/municipal Steering Committees for Corruption and Negative Phenomena Prevention and Control must set an exemplary role model in combating corruption. They are not tempted by any interest and are not afraid of any impure obstacle. They dare to say and resolutely do for the common good.

Corruption prevention and control ís a very difficult and complicated battle, but with the engagement of the whole political system, the consensus and support of the people, corruption will definitely be prevented and rooted out, emphasized the Party chief.

He praised the provincial/municipal Steering Committees for Corruption and Negative Phenomena Prevention and Control for recording initial results in combating corruption at the grassroots-level, helping to make a noticeable change in the battle.

He requested them to combat individualism and opportunism, and strictly handle agencies, organizations, and individuals that tolerate, cover up and lend a helping hand to corruption.

The heads of the provincial/municipal steering committees will be held accountable for wrongdoings found in their localities, said the Party General Secretary.

The fifth plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee on May 10, 2022 decided to establish provincial/municipal Steering Committees for Corruption and Negative Phenomena Prevention and Control in an effort to combat corruption in localities.

Three months later, all 63 provinces and cities formed these steering committees, with the capital city of Hanoi, the north-central province of Thanh Hoa and the central city of Da Nang taking the lead.

They have quickly formulated working regulations, assigned tasks to members and developed working programmes to be undertaken.

Over the past year, as many as 286 cases showing criminal signs have been transferred to the investigation agency for further investigations, increasing nearly three times compared to a year ago. The committees have also prosecuted 530 cases with 1,858 people involved and put hundreds of other complicated cases of great public concern under the microscope.

They have disciplined 15 Party organisations and nearly 80 officials of agencies tasked with corruption prevention and control for committing violations.
