Top Party leader requests breakthroughs for corruption fight in 2023

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has requested more breakthroughs to be made in the fight against corruption in the year ahead so that those masterminding notorious graft scandals will face tough punishments according to the law.

The legal system must be perfected in order to ensure that there will be no more room for corruption to occur and grow in the State apparatus, General Secretary Trong said at the 23rd meeting of the Central Steering Committee for Corruption and Negativity Prevention and Control in Hanoi on January 12.

He went on to reiterate the Party’s consistent policy of combating corruption with no cases off limits in terms of prevention efforts.

Top priority will be given to perfecting power control mechanisms in a bid to prevent and combat corruption in areas prone to negativity, he said, adding that more efforts will be made to identify and block loopholes and inadequacies, centering around policies and laws related to banking, finance, securities, corporate bonds, construction planning, bidding, auction, and price appraisal.

To do this, the top Party leader requested that Party committees and relevant agencies at all levels strengthen inspection, supervision, and auditing, focusing on areas prone to corruption, as well as pressing issues of public concern.

It is important to bring into full play the leaders’ pioneering role, as well as the role of people in the corruption fight, stressed the Party General Secretary.

He went on to propose speeding up the investigation, prosecution, and first-instance trial of 10 key corruption cases, including those related to the Viet A test kit scandal, the bribery case for repatriation flights at the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the stock market manipulation case at FLC Group, among others.

Most notably, the General Secretary requested that the recent bribery and document falsification case at the Vietnam Register be put under the microscope by the Central Steering Committee for Corruption and Negativity Prevention and Control.

In 2022, as many as 539 Party members were disciplined for corruption and intentional wrongdoing. Among them, 47 officials were under the management of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Party, an increase of 15 cases compared to the previous year. It is noteworthy that two Deputy Prime Ministers were dismissed from their position.
