State President pays tribute to Buddhist Sangha leader

VOV.VN - State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on October 22 laid a wreath and offered incense to Most Venerable Thich Pho Tue, the top leader of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS).

The Supreme Patriarch of the VBS’s Patronage Council passed away in Hanoi on October 21 morning at the age of 105.

President Phuc extended his deep condolences to the VBS’s Patronage Council, as well as Vietnamese monks and nuns and Buddhist followers at home and abroad over the passing of the Supreme Patriarch.

He expressed hope that Vietnamese monks and nuns and Buddhist followers will learn from the Supreme Patriarch’s teachings to build the VBS into a united and strong Buddhist organization and make a practical contribution to the Fatherland’s construction and defense.

The body of the deceased Supreme Patriarch is being placed in a specially designed coffin at Rang Pagoda in Phu Xuyen district of Hanoi, for Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers to pay their respect to the top Buddhist leader.

A memorial service for the top Buddhist leader will be held at 9am on October 24.
