The meeting discussed the implementation of necessary mechanisms and policies to accelerate key projects for the 2027 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, to be held in Phu Quoc city of Kien Giang province.

There are only 19 months left until the start of APEC 2027-related events, and 29 months until the main Economic Leaders’ Week. Following current investment procedures would not ensure timely completion of key projects for the summit and related meetings, said Nguyen Thanh Nhan, chairman of the provincial administration.

He proposed that the government allow the use of emergency public investment procedures for urgent projects, and delegate authority to the provincial administration to approve certain PPP projects, normally under the Prime Minister’s jurisdiction.

According to Deputy PM Dung, there are six groups of projects to be deployed by Kien Giang for the summit and related meetings. They include two reservoir projects, waste and wastewater treatment plants, transport infrastructure (roads from the airport to the APEC Convention Center, main arterial roads, and connecting roads), underground infrastructure, digital infrastructure and smart city systems, and coastal roads.

These are nationally significant projects, requiring special, tailored mechanisms to ensure rapid, efficient, and high-quality execution, he said.

He revealed the government would issue two official documents to legalise and fast-track the implementation of these key foreign affairs and political projects for APEC 2027.

“Time is limited. The Politburo and the Government have already assigned this mission. All infrastructure and connection projects, including the airport, must be completed well in advance for testing and fine-tuning,” concluded the Deputy PM.
