President Ho Chi Minh’s memorial plague unveiled in Czech city

VOV.VN - A memorial plague dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam was inaugurated in Chrastava city, the Czech Republic, on May 19, marking the 135th birth anniversary of the Vietnamese president (1890 – 2025) and the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1950 – 2025).

The ceremony was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Duong Hoai Nam, Chrastava Mayor Michael Canov, representatives from the Czech Senate, leaders of Vietnamese associations, and a large number of Vietnamese expatriates in the locality and surrounding areas.

In his speech, Ambassador Nam highlighted the significance of the memorial plaque which he said not only honours President Ho’s legacy but also symbolises the long-standing friendship between Vietnam and the Czech Republic, a relationship built on historical foundations and continuing to thrive toward a strategic partnership.

The site of the plaque will become a cultural and spiritual landmark, helping younger generations of Vietnamese in the Czech Republic better understand their roots, strengthen community bonds, and contribute actively to society, he said.

On this special occasion, the Ambassador thanked the authorities and people of Chrastava for the deep respect and affection they have shown toward the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people.

For his part, Mayor Canov recalled the historic visit of President Ho in 1957, during which the President met with hundreds of young Vietnamese cadets who were studying and living in Chrastava.

He affirmed that the bond between Chrastava and the Vietnamese community is not only based on shared history but is also growing stronger through present-day collaboration. He expressed deep gratitude to the Vietnamese community for their tangible contributions during difficult times, such as the 2010 floods and the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as their continued role in the city’s socio-economic development.

The memorial plaque, placed in a prominent location in Chrastava, is not merely a physical structure, but a valuable cultural legacy and a symbol of the Vietnam - Czech friendship, that reminds future generations of the global influence of President Ho Chi Minh – a leader who dedicated his life to national liberation and international solidarity.
