PM urges rational solutions to tackle tariff challenges
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on relevant ministries and sectors to demonstrate creativity, resilience, and intelligence to identify effective solutions to difficulties and challenges, especially after the US recently announced a 46% reciprocal tariff on Vietnamese goods to be exported into the US.

Addressing a regular government meeting for March in Hanoi on April 6, Chinh emphasized that the global situation has seen new, complex, and unpredictable developments, with strategic competition becoming more intense and sensitive than anticipated. Rising trade tensions could lead to the disruption of global production and supply chains. Notably, the recent US announcement of a 46% reciprocal tariff has caused global stock markets, including Vietnam’s, to drop by more than 100 points.
He stated that the Party, State, and various ministries and sectors are engaging in dialogue through all political and diplomatic channels to handle the issue. At the same time, they are implementing various measures to mitigate the situation, including facilitating investments from foreign enterprises, especially US companies, in Vietnam, and addressing legitimate requests from the US side.
“We must keep a cool head. Whenever we face difficulties, whether external shocks, disease outbreaks, climate change, or natural disasters, we must respond with composure, drawing on the Vietnamese spirit, culture, and intellect,” he said.
According to the PM, creativity, flexibility, and suitability must go hand in hand with effectiveness, while also showing goodwill to partners, especially by cooperating and promoting market expansion, product diversification, and supply chain diversification with other regions.

The Government leader said all ministries and sectors must focus on key tasks, with top priority to be given to raising economic growth to 8% or more, creating momentum and foundation for double-digit growth in coming years. Other tasks include aggressively reorganising the administrative apparatus, finalising documents to be submitted to the coming 14th National Party Congress, and implementing Resolution 57 of the Politburo on innovation and digital transformation.
He cited review reports, saying the socio-economic situation in March was better than the previous month, with first-quarter growth reaching 6.93%, which is higher than the same period over the past five years and also higher than the initial scenario approved by the Party Central Committee.
However, he noted, the figure is still lower than the target of 8% and above, indicating a delay, he warned.
During the meeting, delegates discussed the socio-economic performance in March and Q1, disbursement of public investment capital, and implementation of the three national target programmes, among others.
